Any list of significant movies in surround sound has to include Point Break because it made the market for the technology. We old guys watched it dozens of times - including again last night. My first surround sound system cost $3500 including built in speakers in the ceiling and walls but it was a great advance in home theater. The “system” included the amp(s), speakers controls and wiring but the video set up was a wholly different matter.

Hi Mark! I'd suggest you start with a crossover frequency of 80 Hz and use the Audyssey MultEQ feature on your receiver for automated room calibration. You'll have to listen to a few tracks you know by heart and make adjustments based on your room acoustics, but that should give you a good head start.

Edge of Tomorrow - for those who want to test their low capabilities. I believe the opening scene rolls down from high frequency all the way down to 10hz.
Ready Player One - first car race scene and end battle are on the top of the test section for directional audio sweeps, but the entire movie is fantastic.

If you are a horror-thriller fan, check out Pontypool or the original REC. Both of them have phenomenal sound design on Blu-Ray.

Also check out Bon Jovi's first and only acting performance in U-571... Its its amazing depth-charge soundscape.

After making adjustments or upgrades to my home theatre setup I always go for these three classic scenes.
1) Pitch Black
The opening scene with the crash on the planet. The subtle "tink" of impacting comet particles hitting far away parts of the ship, getting closer and closer to your point of view, then the groggy crew being thrown into the gritty chaos of trying to land a ship being torn apart around them. One of the best "realistic" spaceship sceens in scifi movie history.

2) The Matrix
From the Lobby shoot-out to the rooftop rescue. I love the crisp surround of bullets flying around room and tiles exploding etc

3) Deadpool
From the jump off the bridge to end of the shoot-out. Great for testing the tactile transducers in your couch ????
